The Danes said, “No!”

After triumphantly smashing most of Europe, Hitler’s Nazis occupied all of Denmark on April 9, 1940. The Nazis confidently ordered the Danes to provide raw materials, food, and armaments for the German war effort.

Only Britain still hung on against the Nazis. The English Channel stopped the tanks, but the German Luftwaffe was pounding Britain to rubble.

The Nazis had all the guns and no hesitation about killing. The Danes were stubborn, united, and prepared.

“Rule with an iron hand,” Hitler said.

Could the Danes really use strategic nonviolence against Hitler? Or were they merely committing suicide?
